Effects-Only Units vs. Amp-Modeling Processors
Amp modeling replaces or supplements amplification stages; effects processing alone assumes those stages already exist elsewhere.

Into a traditional guitar amplifier, effects-only processing may preserve the amplifier as the core voice. Direct to PA, headphones, FRFR speaker or recording interface, amplifier and cabinet modeling provide the missing preamp, power-stage and speaker behavior.
Avoid doubling the same stage
An amp model into a conventional guitar preamp and speaker can apply two strong tone-shaping systems. Use an effects return, power-amp input or direct destination when the modeler supplies the full chain, following the equipment manuals for level and connection guidance.
Keep portable options explicit
A processor that can disable amp and cabinet blocks may serve both amplifier and direct rigs. Save distinct output configurations and label presets so a stage change never silently sends cabinet simulation to the wrong destination.
