Routing
Modeler Output Levels, Balanced Lines and Direct Connections
The connector shape is only part of compatibility; level, impedance, balancing and destination mode complete the connection.
Research guide · Updated July 27, 2026Name the receiving input
An amplifier instrument input, effects return, mixer line input, microphone preamp and powered-speaker input expect different levels and may apply different tone shaping. Choose the processor output mode and nominal level for that destination.
Use balanced connections where supported
Balanced outputs help reject interference on long runs when the receiving input is also balanced. Connector type alone does not guarantee balancing; verify the manual. A DI may provide isolation, level conversion or format changes when the processor lacks the needed output.
Set gain from source to destination
Begin with conservative output, set the receiving channel for clean headroom and raise the processor to a healthy level without clipping either stage. Store global output settings separately from artistic preset volume where the device permits it.
