Save a dated full backup and individual critical presets before firmware, editor or operating-system updates. Keep a copy outside the computer normally used for editing and record the firmware and editor versions that created it.
Update away from deadlines
Read release notes and backup warnings, use stable power and allow time to rebuild caches or presets. After updating, test every output, controller, external loop, MIDI command and show preset at realistic level.
Carry a musically complete fallback
Prepare a small amp, direct device or compact processor with one clean and one driven sound. Include the cables and power required to reach the venue system. Practice the swap so recovery is measured in minutes rather than improvisation.
