A preset commonly defines blocks and routing; a scene or snapshot changes bypass states and parameters without rebuilding the whole signal path. Keep one song or compatible group of sounds inside a stable architecture when seamless changes matter.
Choose what each controller recalls
Decide whether a snapshot recalls knob edits, tempo, expression position and external MIDI messages. Unexpected recall behavior often comes from parameters left outside or inside snapshot control, so document the assignment.
Level-match and test transitions
Compare sustained chords across every change, not only short notes. Listen for gaps, spillover, CPU reallocation and jumps caused by drive compression or delay feedback. Save after testing from the exact starting state used on stage.
